Easy to get around, whether you’re heading out or staying local
Close to everything in central scotland
Staying here, you’re just outside Falkirk, with all of its shopping options and amenities. From the site you’ve got quick access to the motorway, regular trains and buses nearby, and simple local routes.
Whether you’re heading into the cities, out to the countryside, or just popping out for a walk or food, getting around doesn’t take much planning. If you’re heading up into the Highlands or out to the Hebrides, this is an ideal place to break your journey.
By car
If you’re driving, you’re well placed. The site is just a couple of minutes from the M9, making it easy to head in any direction without navigating through town first.
- Stirling: around 20 minutes
- Edinburgh: 30-40 minutes (longer at rush hour)
- Glasgow: 30-40 minutes (longer at rush hour)
- Trossachs: around 35 minutes
- Perth: around 50 minutes
- Loch Lomond: around an hour
For day trips, this means you can get out, explore, and be back without long travel days. We’re also just over an hour from Dundee, St Andrews, and Pitlochry, as well as much more.

By train
A simple option for city trips.
Polmont station is about a 15-20 minute walk (quicker on the way back downhill), with regular services on the main Edinburgh-Glasgow, and Edinburgh-Stirling/Dunblane lines.
- Edinburgh: ~25 minutes
- Glasgow: ~25 minutes
- Stirling: ~20 minutes
There are multiple services every hour in both directions, so you don’t need to plan too tightly around timetables.
By bus
Useful for shorter local journeys, or getting around if you’ve got a free bus-pass.
Buses run from Polmont Main Street (a five-minute walk from the site) into Falkirk roughly every 20-30 minutes, taking around 10 minutes. There are also direct buses to Edinburgh about once an hour. Getting to Glasgow or Stirling by bus requires changing in Falkirk and journey times vary, so it’s usually easier to take the train to those destinations.
Taxis
Reliable and easy to arrange.
Local taxi firms are responsive and reasonably-priced, which makes them a good option for getting to the station on rainy days, evenings out, or when you don’t want to think about parking.
Getting out on foot
You don’t have to go far to get some fresh air.
Just across from the gate you’ll find the Polmont Woods, and beyond that the Milhall Reservoir (a perfect walk if you’re travelling with a dog).
About 20 minutes up the hill, past the station, takes you to the Union Canal and the John Muir Way cycling and walking route. Linlithgow is about a 2-hour walk, that way.
These are simple, low-effort options if you want to stretch your legs without having to involve any other form of transport.

One of the advantages of being here is how many different kinds of days are within easy reach.
